THE CLASH OF THE TITANS Movie Review. Taking you on an Eye-Scorching Adventure into the Third Dimension.

PRESS PREVIEW

Hang on, isn’t this SAM WORTHINGTON again?

Fresh from his starring role in the world’s biggest smash hit AVATAR, the action star is back again, fighting the mighty dark forces in THE CLASH OF THE TITANS.

SAM WORTHINGTON is currently Hollywood’s newest 3D A-lister albeit sex symbol.

Move over, BRAD PITT.

We have long arrived at the threshold of the new,

all-digital age of film making, the 3D cinematic offerings.

With advancing technologies and emerging trends, the wonderful world of animation is now triggering vast improvements.

Animation is now the NEW buzzword in feature films, television and the gaming industry.

For sure, one of the biggest misconceptions about modern movies is that visual effects are generated by computers.

Nothing can be further from the truth.

Human inventiveness plays a vital role, is the most important ingredient – and it will always be.

Computers may offer amazing new possibilities.

But it is the people, not machines, that drive the craft of special effects.

It takes that special talent, scientific as well as aesthetic, to coax the best out of the machines on these occasions.

There is an increasing interest in new film production techniques such as motion capture, allowing live motion to be combined with 3D graphic characters, creating extremely lifelike special effects for films.

Giving a CG animal some semblance of life requires extensive animation experience.

It is after all, ART marrying TECHNOLOGY.

The original CLASH OF THE TITANS was shot way back in 1981, a groundbreaking classic setting the bar for action fantasies.

Now the 2010 remake starring SAMWORTHINGTON stands out as a dazzling, remarkable piece of cinematic fantasy.

If you relish Greek mythology, then this one is worth the wait.

THE CLASH OF THE TITANS by French Director LOUISLETERRIER is a splendid work of art, and will surely blow your mind away.

Stay braced …..

Get set for the menacing demons in 3D when they “shoot” right from the giant screen at you, in your seat.

It’s an eye-popping cinematic fantasy!

From AVATAR right into THE CLASH OF THE TITANS, the 3D element takes us on to an exciting new dimension in entertainment.

Here’s the story in a nutshell:

You hear shrill battle cries and warrior mayhem as men fought against kings, and in turn kings fought against gods in the ultimate struggle for power.

PERSEUS (SAM WORTHINGTON) was the mortal son ofZEUS, King of the Gods.

As a baby he was left to die in the seas, but was saved by a fishing family and raised as a commoner.

He was powerless to protect the lives of his foster family who were killed by HADES (RALPH FIENNES), the evil GODof the underworld.

PERSEUS vowed revenge and conjured a perilous mission to defeat HADES first, before he can seize power fromZEUS (LIAM NEESON).

Helming a brave and fearless legion of warriors, he set off into the forbidden worlds.

He battled ugly unholy demons and scary beasts and his chance of survival was put to test by accepting his godly powers, thereby charting his destiny as a GOD.

Watch the ferocious fights as they are a phantasmagorical treat for the eyes and mind, a wondrous blend of live action and CG animation in 3D.

Enjoy this gorgeous effects-driven fantasy where strange magical creatures dwell in a mystical world of unbridled imagination and scope, told through the spectacular, cutting-edge visuals.

Watch the 3D version and it will grip you with the stark realism.

JUST ANOTHER PANDORA'S BOX Movie Review. BEHOLD A SPOOFY GAGFUL OF FUN!

PRESS PREVIEW

To start off, are you feeling a tad blue from overwork?

If you are, then go watch Hong Kong flick JUST ANOTHER PANDORA’S BOX.

It could be the temporary relief you need, to kick stress out of your system.

JUST ANOTHER PANDORA’S BOX is pure satire, a slapstick, a popcorn spoof.

It’s designed to tickle your ribs.

It’s a Chinese period romance featuring an impressive list of the creme de la creme of HONG KONG’s best-loved comedians such as RONALD CHENG, ERIC TSANG, SANDRA NG and a host of silly Billies and Jills.

Even GILLIAN CHUNG joined the fun by accepting an alluring cameo role, appearing in half a dozen scenes playing a heroine who was out to save our madcap anti-hero RONALD CHENG.

Welcome back, GILLIAN!

To begin with, you get this absurd story of a lovelorn fairy called ROSE who lived eons ago in a faraway kingdom.

ROSE was a bimbo enthralled by dreamy tales of a legendary hero called PURPLE CLOUD and his magnificent sword and decided to steal the weapon for herself.

This airhead fairy perchance encountered a dubious petty thief QING YISE whose real intention of getting up, close and personal with her was to snatch the sword and sell it for a neat profit.

But ROSE’s over zealous advances terrified QING YISE who fled for dear life, but was caught up by the police.

Left with no choice, QING YISE collaborated with ROSE to resist the captors, with the help of a magical artifact called MOONLIGHT TREASURE BOX.

Uncovering this box, QING YISE and ROSE zoomed a thousand years into the past, travelling through the escapades of a CHINESE ODYSSEY, RED CLIFF, KUNG FU HUSTLE, KUNG FU PANDA, CROUCHING TIGER HIDDEN DRAGON, etc.

Ouchhh …..

It’s as loony as you can get …..

Plenty of gags galore, only if let yourself loosen up go with the flow ….

Director JEFF LAU directed this slapstick.

Adapting from other film makers’ successes, he created a comical potpourri of best loved scenes from other box office blockbusters.

Suspend disbelief here …..

GO ENJOY!

Actor REMUS KAM. Think ASIAN and the WORLD can be a BETTER PLACE.

Actor REMUS KAM is one interesting fella.

He is an ACTOR, setting his sights on the big time.

He has guts.

He’s candid, expressive, speaks his mind.

He digs creative freedom without sanctions.

Honesty is the best policy, but honesty does not bag you many friends.

Actors always love compliments, irrespective of how superficially crappy these are,

and nobody likes to be placed on a hot plate of criticism.

“I dare dream,” REMUS says, “but I have to be practical.”

Yet he perseveres, nonplussed.

He’s a Malaysian bred actor starting out a little over twelve years ago when he was just 21.

He is 33 now, looking not a day over 28.

“Think positive and the world can be your oyster, only if you are mentally and physically prepared

You make sacrifices

and along the way you’ll experience the usual thrills and spins,

And unless you try …..

you’ll never really know.”

He has this “wander lust” in him,

As an ACTOR he’s seen and been places, worked in Malaysia, Taiwan, Hong Kong, China and Singapore.

TAIWAN is where he is based now.

And he has his fair share of this thing called fame and the problems that come with it,

plus the occasional bad press.

Such as this time in SINGAPORE before the Chinese New Year 2010, shooting a 20 episode drama series HAPPY FAMILY.

He commented something in jest about kissing his leading lady (known for her icy demeanor) and was misquoted, slammed left and right and made to look like a silly Billy.

REMUS took it in one professional stride, casting pretension aside.

“No problem,” he enthuses. “If the reporters wanna get this one out of context, so be it. You can’t please everyone.”

This is the name of the game called occupational hazard.

He chose the industry to be in and he abides by the rules.

He’s exuberant that his role in HAPPY FAMILY charmed one and all as he exuded charismatic screen presence.

His first foray into the acting industry was in MALAYSIA with the then established Cantonese drama factory called HVD. That year was 1997.

When HVD plunged into economic doldrums and all were not well, he quited three years upon fulfilling his contractual obligations and repositioned himself in Hong Kong. There he joined ATV and starred in a slew of dramas and features.

In 2007, he headed for TAIWAN where he is currently based.

In the last few years, kept himself busy with back-to-back Taiwanese soaps.

He enjoys TAIWAN where he plans to invest in a production company and make TAIPEI his home.

“I am happy and comfortable here,” he quips.

REMUS says the SINGAPORE market is too small.

He will do the occasional drama, but he has no intentions of putting SINGAPORE into his long term plans.

Opportunities are few and far between, he feels.

He is a tad disappointed with the MALAYSIAN entertainment scene though.

It may be true that MALAYSIAN singers such as GARY CAO GE and MICHAEL WONG are raking in the million of dollars through their albums and sell out concerts and are household names in most parts of ASIA.

Not so, the Malaysian actors.

Creatively, there are little or no changes in the MALAYSIAN CHINESE entertainment scene, even after the ten long years since he left.

He observes that it’s still the same deluge of mundane old scripts and shoot techniques.

Worse, there are hardly any viable opportunities for actors, as most, if not all, are working on a freelance basis.

Production budgets are low as you can go and the pay is pure peanuts.

The pastures are always greener away from home where you garner better respect and money.

REMUS KAM has this advice for fellow artistes:

Think ASIAN and the WORLD can be a BETTER PLACE.

You must have the determination to plan and venture.

He reiterates:

And unless you try, you’d never know.

LIFE HAS MANY EXPRESSIONS.

So play the cards you’re dealt -

Strive hard, work smart.

He sustains his unwavering belief in the power of faith.

You just have to move forward.

Yesterday is a closed chapter.

GO, REMUS, GO!

EDGE OF DARKNESS Movie Review. BEWARE! There're SECRETS lurking in the DARK.

MOVIE PREVIEW

EDGE of DARKNESS is one taut, gripping thriller.

It’s dark and potently powerful …..

The mood and tone can be brooding, despairing, devastating …..

So much so that, throughout the entire movie, it puts you on edge with your own emotions and plays with your suspension of disbelief.

Some scenes you will be subjectively “drawn” into the big picture so that you can almost “feel” the rage and pain that our hero is being put through, losing a loved one.

A single father doted on his attractive 24-year old daughter and soon realized that he could not fathom his own blood and kin ….

Was she really the sprightly sensible daughter as she portrayed?

His world was inexplicably torn apart when she was suddenly assassinated just right outside his doorstep.

The questions set in ….

Was he actually the intended victim?

What was the motive for the senseless murder?

EDGE OF DARKNESS is an adrenaline-charged film steep in darkness and slick in suspense.

Unravel the mystery and you’ll find that there’s more to meet the eye than apparent situations,

We are looking at espionage and government sanctioned murders directly in the face ….

There’s this stone-faced secret government operative Dariius Jedburgh (RAY WINSTONE) who was dead bent on cleaning up every remaining evidence of whatever that had taken place and hell betide those who stood in his way ….

MEL GIBSON played Thomas Craven, a relentless homicide detective from the Boston Police Department who was devil-may-care when he sought revenge for his daughter’s killing,

He entered a world of chaotic darkness where government collusion and corporate cover-ups embroiled.

So his daughter was involved with an activist group, eager to expose the misdeeds of an energy corporation that had sinister ties linked to the US government?

The issue of high level corruption involving nuclear weapons can deem this as a political thriller albeit an action revenge flick …..

I’d say that EDGE OF DARKNESS is a mesmerizing power-punch of a thriller.

It’s a 2010 film adaptation of an award winning 1985 BBC mini series of the same name.

It’s great to watch MEL GIBSON in action again as it’s his first acting role in seven years.

MEL has revealed that, since turning 50, he’d be more discerning about the type of roles he plays.

Directed by MARTIN CAMPBELL (Casino Royale) you won’t be disappointed, for sure.

Go judge for yourself.
